What is Italist?

Italist is a luxury fashion platform that brings the stock of many independent Italian boutiques into one site, selling brand-new, authentic, in-season pieces from more than 2,500 brands such as Prada, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Fendi, Valentino, Loewe, Max Mara, Brunello Cucinelli and Dolce & Gabbana. It launched in 2014 in Silicon Valley with backing from the 500 Startups accelerator and is now based in Los Angeles as italist Inc., with an office in Milan and a team of more than 50 people.

The idea is that Italian retail prices are often lower than luxury store prices elsewhere, so you buy at the Italian boutique price and import directly. The company says its base prices, even after duties and taxes, are typically 30 to 40% below the manufacturer's suggested retail price in the same region, and sale discounts reach 60% off base prices. Partner boutiques go through a 50-point checklist and a review of their supply contracts to make sure goods are authentic and new.

For Gulf shoppers the site has an Arabic interface and prices in UAE dirhams, UPS express shipping is free on every order, and duties are built into the final price in most countries outside the EU. Categories cover clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, jewellery and homeware for women, men and kids; recent examples include a Saint Laurent belt at about AED 2,265 instead of 3,624, or a Paul Smith scarf at about AED 514. Prices change daily with each boutique's stock, and BTS5 adds 5% on top.

Best Italist categories to save on

• Luxury bags: Bags from Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Khaite and Magda Butrym, sometimes more than 35% off; the same piece may be listed by several boutiques at different prices, so browse by brand before buying.
• Shoes: Christian Louboutin, Valentino Garavani, Loewe and Miu Miu shoes; check the international size conversion chart because Italian sizing differs from US and UK sizes.
• Women's clothing: Max Mara coats, Jacquemus dresses and skirts, The Row and Chloé; compare the garment measurements on the page with a similar piece from your wardrobe before ordering.
• Men's clothing: Prada and Bottega Veneta shirts, Saint Laurent jeans, Sacai and Brunello Cucinelli jackets; the men's sale section sometimes has pieces at half price.
• Accessories and belts: Belts, sunglasses, scarves and wallets from Saint Laurent, Paul Smith and Gucci; a good lower-value entry point to try Italist before bigger pieces.
• Kidswear and homeware: A kids' section from Italian luxury labels and a homeware section for décor; order from the same boutique where possible because each boutique ships its own parcel.

Italist shipping and delivery

• Every order ships directly from partner boutiques in Italy via UPS Express, usually arriving in 7 to 14 business days, with deliveries Monday to Friday.
• Express shipping is free on every order to every country, and duties and taxes are built into the final price in most countries outside the EU.
• Items from different boutiques ship in separate parcels and may arrive at different times, but you pay one total and can track every parcel in “My Account”.
• In duty-unpaid (DDU) countries such as Qatar, India and Mexico the price excludes customs, which you pay to the courier to release the order.

Italist payment options

The code applies before you pick a payment method, so the discount shows however you pay. Options at Italist:

• Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard and JCB cards
• Apple Pay
• Google Pay
• Prices in your local currency such as UAE dirhams; tell your bank in advance because some cards block foreign transactions

Italist returns policy

Any item can be returned as long as it is shipped back to Italist within 14 days of delivery, but returns are not free: the customer pays shipping, estimated customs duties and processing fees, and duties are non-refundable through Italist. Once UPS tracking confirms receipt, inspection and refund take 7 to 10 business days, and the money goes back to the original payment method or to store credit, as you prefer. Returns are refused if brand or Italist tags are cut, the item shows wear, or the dust bag or box is missing; underwear, swimwear, fur, jewellery and watches are final sale, and each item from a different boutique must go back in its own box.

Steps to save at Italist

1. Copy BTS5 from the Italist card above.
2. Tap the deal button to open italist.com and select your country so prices show in your currency with duties included.
3. Browse by brand or category, and compare the same piece across boutiques if it appears more than once.
4. Create an account, which is required for a first order, and add the item to the cart after checking the size chart.
5. Paste BTS5 in the discount field and check the 5% shows in the order summary.
6. Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and have your ID or residence permit ready for UPS if you are in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain or Qatar.

Shopping Italist from different countries: shipping and currency

Italist sells internationally, and shipping and currency details depend on where you are. Here is what matters by region:

Italist code in the United States

All US orders ship DDP after the change in US law, so duties and taxes are calculated into the final price, and express shipping is free.

Italist code in Europe

Within the EU there are no customs duties because goods ship from Italy, prices include VAT, and UPS Express delivery is free.

Italist code in the United Kingdom

The UK is outside the EU and the final price there includes duties like most non-EU countries, but UPS does not currently ship to Northern Ireland according to the help page.

Italist code in the Gulf & Middle East

Italist ships free to the Gulf and Egypt via UPS Express in 7 to 14 business days, and the site is available in Arabic with dirham pricing. Duties are included for the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Egypt, while Qatar is a duty-unpaid destination where you pay the courier. UPS asks for a National ID or Iqama in Saudi Arabia, a CPR card in Bahrain and a QID in Qatar. BTS5 follows the advertiser's country list, so check the discount shows before paying.

Italist code in the rest of the world

Italist sells to most countries, but places such as India, Mexico and South Africa pay customs on delivery, Brazil requires a CPF number, and UPS does not ship to a few countries such as Iran and Cuba.

Best sale seasons at Italist

• End-of-season sales in Italy (January and July) — the deepest cuts on seasonal collections
• Black Friday and Cyber Monday in November — usually extra markdowns on major brands
• New-season drops (spring/summer in February and March, autumn/winter in August and September)
• Before Eid and family occasions — order at least two weeks ahead because shipping from Italy takes up to 14 business days

Offers change faster than usual in these seasons; reopen the Italist page on Koubonat before ordering because the cards are refreshed first.

Why is my Italist code not working?

• The delivery country is not on the advertiser's BTS5 country list
• Make sure you copied the code exactly, with no extra spaces
• The item is in a sale that does not accept an extra code
• No account was created or you were not signed in before entering the code
• The bank declined the foreign transaction, so payment with the discount did not complete

Fix: identify the reason above, then copy the code again from the card. If the total does not move, the offer does not cover your current basket.

Italist code or direct site offers?

Italist's edge over luxury stores in the Gulf is that the displayed price includes express shipping and duties in most of the region, so you compare one final number. But returns are costly because they pass through Italian customs at your expense, and stock changes daily. Buy from Italist when you are sure of the size and piece, add BTS5 for the extra saving, and prefer a local store if you need to try things on or want free returns.
